Identify Your Keywords

Keywords are the words or phrases that internet users use to find a website on search engines. Identify 4 or 5 keywords that your target audiences uses to search for your products or services and use them liberally throughout the text on your website. The keywords density should be approximately 2% to 5% of the total number of words on a page.

If your website contains images, attach appropriate title tags and alt tags to them. search engines are unable to read through images, so these tags are the only means by which they can be indexed. Always put images that are relevant to your website so that the alt tags can carry keywords therein.

Create a Site Map
The sitemap contains the complete list of all the pages of the website. They not only allow the visitors to locate different areas but also inform the search engines about the various pages of the website so that they are able to index all of them.

Include a robots.txt File
The robots.txt is file on your server informs the search engines what files and folders to visit and what all to leave out.

Build Quality Content
The content of your website is what defines its success. Search engines aim to deliver the website with the most relevant content to internet users. Also popular search engines like Google favor fresh content. So updating the content on regular basis is an ideal way to make your website a favorite in their lists.

Build good links
Linking can be two ways:
• Internal Linking- Make sure that all the pages of your website are linked together and all the related pages are cross-referenced. All the web pages should only be 1 click away from the homepage.

• Links from other websites- Search engines look for the number of websites linking to you to assess your popularity on the internet. It assesses the quantity and quality of the websites linking to you to gauge your placing in its results.
